Certified Pool-Spa Operator (CPO®) Program

General Information

  • The CPO® program requires just 14–16 hours of instruction by a certified instructor.

  • An open-book written examination is required.
  • Upon successful completion, graduates receive a certificate and wallet card, both including the graduate’s personal CPO® registration number permanently recorded with the PHTA.
  • CPO® certification is recognized nationally and internationally.
  • The program has certified more than 200,000 professionals in 44 countries.
  • Certification is valid for five years.
  • The CPO® program is suitable for all pool and spa operations, including:

What Will the CPO® Course Do for You?

The Certified Pool-Spa Operator Course prepares individuals with the essential knowledge, techniques, and skills needed for pool and spa operations.

Course Format

Two-Day Classroom Course

The course is two days long and covers 14–16 hours of material from the CPO® Handbook (mailed upon registration and payment) along with applicable local codes.

Instruction provided by:

  • Glen Jacobson, Swimming Pool Services
  • Guest Instructors: TBD

Class size is limited to 30 participants to allow time for special problems and personalized attention. The classroom setting provides direct interaction with instructors and fellow students.

Students must pass the open-book exam with a minimum score of 75% to earn CPO® certification.


Pool Operator Fusion™ Option

The Fusion™ format includes:

  • Online Pool Operator Primer™
  • One day of classroom instruction

Students must:

  1. Present a Pool Operator Primer™ Record of Completion
  2. Successfully complete the Pool Operator Fusion™ class

to earn CPO® Certification.

The Fusion™ course fee includes access codes.
